IN-PERSON COURT APPEARANCES HAVE RESUMED!!
 

  • Please report to court on your scheduled date. 
     
  • If your court date has passed, you will be notified of your new court appearance by USPS mail or call the court office for other options. (M-F 9-4 716-549-0300 opt 1)
     
  • It is the defendant’s responsibility to notify the court of his/her current mailing address. 
     
  • ONLY DEFENDANTS and their attorneys may enter the court room (unless said defendant is <18 years old, a guardian must accompany him/her.) 
     
  • CHILDREN and guests (at this time) are NOT permitted in the court house during court.  It is the defendant’s responsibility to arrange appropriate child care prior to the court appearance.    

If you were sentenced to take DRIVER IMPROVEMENT SCHOOL as part of a plea, you are still required to complete the course and return the certificate of completion to the court no later than 60 days past your court date.
Online schools have remained open during COVID-19. (for more information, see below)

Rules of the Town Court
 
  • You MUST be on the calendar to attend court. Please do not show up to a court session your aren’t scheduled for.  If you’re unsure if you’re on the schedule, phone the court. 
  • Payments are to be made during court clerk office hours M-F 9am-4pm, by mail, or in the court’s drop box. DO NOT show up on a court night to make a payment! You will be asked to leave. (see payment options below)
  • It is NOT appropriate to have children in the court rooms during court sessions.  It is your responsibility to  arrange child care prior to your scheduled court date.
  • Cell phones and/or electronic equipment are not allowed in the building.
  • No backpacks, bags or luggage are allowed in the building.
  • APPROPRIATE DRESS IS REQUIRED for the dignity of the court. SHORTS, sunglasses, hats, revealing or vulgar tops, pajamas, swimwear, etc., are not allowed to be worn in the courtroom or you will be asked to leave.
  • No unauthorized recording devices, electronics, food or beverages are allowed in the courtroom.
  • EVERYONE will be required to pass through the security check at each entry and re-entry.

VEHICLE & TRAFFIC COURT PROCEDURE:
IT IS BENEFICIAL (BUT NOT REQUIRED) THAT YOU TO MAIL YOUR PLEA BACK TO THE COURT BEFORE YOUR COURT APPEARANCE DATE.
If you mail your plea in NOT GUILTY, you will be notified by mail of a new court date to appear.
If you do not mail your plea in, you are expected to report on your scheduled court date and may plea in court. 
It is the defendant’s responsibility to ensure the court has the correct mailing address. 

 
PAYMENT OPTIONS:
BY MAIL:
  Certified Bank Checks or Money Orders in US Dollars (money orders must be signed on the line labeled purchaser’s signature.)
IN PERSON: Cash, VISA, or MasterCard
  • There is a 2.99% fee on all credit/debit card transactions imposed by the credit card processing company.    
  • The court is unable to accept Personal Checks, payments online or over the phone.     
  • The Town Court drop off box is located OUTSIDE the Town Hall entrance to the right. All payments or correspondences must be placed in an      envelope.  Handwriting must be legible and please include either a date of birth or the docket number so we can locate your file. 
  • All bail is subject to a mandatory 3% poundage fee.      
  •  We can no longer accept COINS as a form of payment.

Regarding “Fix-It” Ticket Dismissals:
Please read your STATEMENT OF CORRECTION FOR EQUIPMENT DEFECT thoroughly.
Inspections are not dismissible in the state of NY.
Qualifying VTL violations (VTL 375, 376, and 381, except where both headlamps are defective and except a violation relating to service brakes or audio amplification systems) will be dismissed IF proof is presented to the court that the defect was corrected PRIOR TO ½ HOUR AFTER SUNSET ON THE FIRST FULL BUSINESS DAY after issuance of the summons (VTL section 376-a)
